Not sure what Reiki is? Here’s what you need to know…
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki (pronounced RAY-key) is a Japanese word meaning “Universal Life Force”. This life force energy is the essence that circulated through and gives vitality to all living things. This energy flows through the body, supporting its highest development and fulfillment. Ancient cultures recognized life force energy to be in perfect balance when one experienced emotional stability, psychological equilibrium, and physiological health and well-being. Reiki’s origins are found in the Tibetan sutras, and was rediscovered in the 1920’s by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk-educator.
Reiki is the method for connecting this universal life force energy with the body’s own biological intelligence to foster self-healing. If your life force is low or depleted, or there is a restriction in its flow, you become out of balance and more vulnerable to “dis-ease”. This imbalance can manifest as illness, physical symptoms, negative behavior/attitude, or a feeling of mental or spiritual confusion/exhaustion.
Reiki is a powerful and effective method of energizing and promoting balance to heal at the source of the problem. Reiki promotes natural healing and balance on physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual levels. A Reiki session may be felt in positive effects on a physical level, or result in an attitude shift, solutions to problems, clear insights, or other non physical ways. The Reiki practitioner conducts the energy; the recipient’s innate intelligence absorbs what is needed to bring the body, mind, and spirit back to balance. Reiki raises the energy field’s vibration levels and breaks away negative energy at the same time clearing, strengthening, healing, which allows the life force to flow in a natural and healthy way.
A Reiki session is conducted with the recipient fully clothed, usually on a massage table, and takes about an hour. The practitioner lays her hands gently on or above the body and conducts the Reiki energy to the receiver in a series of positions over the head, torso, and legs. A soothing warmth is most typically experienced, along with feelings of deep relaxation and peace. Some people experience a meditative state or spiritual experience.
