Introducing YEH. YEH is Yoga for Emotional Healing, a gentle women’s yoga class designed for balancing mood and easing distress. Psychological research (recent and ongoing) into the beneficial emotional healing connection that happens between the mind and body in yoga validates what the Yogi Masters realized thousands of years ago – Yoga powerfully works! All the areas and systems in the brain are affected by yoga through biochemical reactions that increase heart rate variability and then in turn balance the autonomic nervous system. Yoga relaxes chronic muscle tension, restores natural diaphragmatic breathing thus improving oxygen absorption and increasing alpha and theta brain waves which ease anxiety. Certain asanas stimulate the vagus nerve, which has been shown to be effective in the treatment of depression and overall mood elevation.
Through the use of mindful movement, breathwork and structured meditation, this class offers the opportunity to connect to the present moment and it’s positive possibilities. YEH is a trauma-sensitive class which means that the use of props is limited, as is the class size. Physical assists are not used and previous yoga experience is not necessary. YEH is taught by Melody Podraza, LCSW, RYT. Melody is a psychotherapist in our local area who practices in such a way that honors the mind, body and spirit. She’s looking forward to bringing this same perspective to practice on the mat.
